Sound Health Advice for Teens?

A few parents have asked for health resources for answering kids questions about puberty and teen health. The good news, there is plenty of advice online for talking to kids about sex. The hard part is finding reliable, age-appropriate resources, for both parents to consult and also, teens. Oh, and evidenced-based information that doesn’t put one to sleep. Or a website that looks like it hasn’t been updated since last decade.

Imagine my delight at finding great information about finding credible health advice at Common Sense Media. One of my favorite parenting resources. A student health blogger, Natasha Pereira, offered this insight:

With so much opinion-based content online, it’s hard to identify reliable sources. A simple Google search doesn’t filter out the myths and misleading information, so how can we determine which articles to trust? For teens seeking answers to health-related questions, the sea of inaccurate, biased, or outright untrue information can complicate a personal, often private investigation. 6 Trustworthy Health Sites for Curious Teens.

How awesome. Sea of inaccurate information. Natasha and I might be related. All her recommendations are evidenced-based websites. Thank goodness.

So, it turns out Common Sense Media, is not merely a great aid for parents in finding quality entertainment for kids. It has also been (quietly) promoting media literacy education. Mainly for kids. Teachers can find lesson plans and other materials for teaching media skills online. Totally free. A wonderful resource.

But what about the parents? Um yes. What about the parents?

But back to sex. If anyone has teen health sources to share, please leave a comment. Evidenced-based, accurate, nuanced health resources.
